Enrichment Experiences

Health Sciences Leadership Council, President

As president of the Health Sciences Leadership Council, I help bring together students from across ECU’s health programs to collaborate and learn from one another. One of my favorite parts of this role has been organizing our interprofessional case competition and Transition to Interprofessional Practice event, where students from medicine, nursing, and allied health work side by side to tackle real-world patient care challenges.

Founder of H.E.A.L.

I founded H.E.A.L. (Helping Empower Aspiring Leaders) as an extension of my Brody Scholars summer enrichment project as a way to connect medical students with local schools and community partners to support early exposure to the medical field for underrepresented students. Through tutoring, mentorship, and outreach, we aim to help bridge gaps in opportunity. Creating this program has been a meaningful way for me to combine service with my commitment to medical education.

Research distinction track

I was selected for the Research Distinction Track following my participation in the Summer Scholars Research Program, where I conducted a project on developing a screening protocol for cochlear implant candidacy. Building on that foundation, I plan to continue expanding my research interests in neurotology through a longitudinal project over the course of medical school.

ENT Interest group, President

Serving as president of the ENT Interest Group has allowed me to share my passion for otolaryngology with my classmates. I organize monthly meetings, coordinate faculty talks, and create opportunities for students to practice presenting clinical cases. Leading this group has been a rewarding way to build community and spark early interest in surgical subspecialties.

Co-Founder of Brody Human Rights Initiative

I co-founded the Brody Human Rights Initiative, our school’s chapter of the national Physicians for Human Rights program. Through this organization, we are creating opportunities for students to engage in education, training, and service that highlight the role of physicians as advocates for human rights.

Brody InnovatED

Through Brody InnovatED, I collaborate with medical and design students to develop creative educational tools, like 3D-printed models for medical student and resident education. This experience has shown me how innovation can transform how we teach and learn medicine, and it has been exciting to contribute to projects that make education more accessible.

Brody Coaches Association

In addition to research and leadership, I’ve enjoyed coaching youth soccer and basketball through the Brody Coaches Association. Working with kids on the field or court has been a refreshing way to stay connected to my community, build relationships outside of medicine, and practice leadership in a completely different setting.

Upcoming Plans

I look forward to joining and contributing to Brody and the Greenville community. I am excited to gain knowledge that will enable me to serve my future patients best. I am eager to learn skills in our Foundations of Doctoring course that extend beyond scientific foundational knowledge. Additionally, I plan to engage in research and service endeavors that will address the needs of those in Eastern North Carolina. As a first-generation medical student, I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship provided by the Brody Scholars program and the tight-knit community it has given me.
